Chris Langer

Disability: wheelchair bound and hard of hearing

Represented by:  the Potter Handy Firm ("Center for Disability Access")

Number of lawsuits filed: 5,000 +

Targets: any retail business

Chris Langer has been filing ADA lawsuits for  a decade or more. He is in his mid to late 50s and confined to a wheelchair. He alleges that he lives in San Diego but likes to drive to Los Angeles for his "ADA advocacy." He will sue any retail business, he does not discriminate.

In the past, Mr. Langer sued businesses over alleged architectural barriers. He has since expanded to include suing businesses over their websites, specifically over videos posted to their websites, allegedly lacking subtitles. He alleges he can not hear the videos and therefore is denied the same access as other customers.

Mr. Langer is clearly a K-Y jelly aficionado. In the case below, he testified that he had driven all the way to Glendale from San Diego, to buy K-Y jelly from a small pharmacy (an item that he could have bought at any drugstore near his house).

Is Mr. Langer an advocate for the disabled or is he a profiteer? You be the judge. Examination by attorney Ara Sahelian:
